W.D. Amaradeva-
W.D. Amaradeva was born in Moratuwa, Sri Lanka.His real name was Wannakuwatta Waduge Don Albert Perera.Amaradeva is considered the father of Sinhala classical music.He blended folk melodies with Indian classical music techniques.He was inspired by Rabindranath Tagore’s music.He studied music in India at Bhatkhande Music Institute.Amaradeva composed many songs that became timeless classics.His voice had a unique emotional depth.He also contributed to film music in Sri Lanka.He worked closely with poets like Mahagama Sekera.Amaradeva received many national and international awards.He won the Ramon Magsaysay Award for his contribution to arts.His songs often carry themes of nature and spirituality.Amaradeva passed away in 2016, leaving a legacy of music.He is remembered as one of the greatest musicians in Sri Lankan history.
