Clarence Wijewardena is considered the father of modern Sinhala pop music.He was born in Haputale, Sri Lanka.Clarence formed the band "Moonstones" with Annesley Malewana.Their song "Mango Nanda" became an instant hit.Clarence introduced electric guitars to Sinhala music.He is credited with revolutionizing Sri Lankan music in the 1960s and 1970s.He later formed the band "Golden Chimes."Clarence composed hundreds of songs during his career.His melodies were simple yet unforgettable.Songs like "Gamen Liyumak" and "Kalu Kenda" are still popular.Clarence worked as a music director for many Sri Lankan films.He also wrote lyrics for some of his songs.His contributions earned him the love and respect of fans and musicians.Clarence passed away in 1996, but his music lives on.He is remembered as a true innovator in Sri Lankan music.
