THE NATIONAL ICON OF SRILANAKAN MUSIC

 Ananda Samarakoon-

Ananda Samarakoon is the composer of Sri Lanka’s national anthem.He was born in Watareka, Sri Lanka.He initially studied art in India but later pursued music.Samarakoon was inspired by Rabindranath Tagore’s work.He introduced a unique style of Sinhala music in Sri Lanka.His song "Namo Namo Matha" became the national anthem in 1951.He is considered one of the pioneers of Sri Lankan patriotic music.Samarakoon also composed devotional songs and folk music.His music often reflects deep love for the country.Songs like "Podi Mali" and "Punchi Suda" remain popular.He worked to preserve Sri Lankan culture through music.Samarakoon faced personal challenges during his life.He passed away in 1962, leaving a lasting legacy.His contribution to Sri Lankan music is celebrated every year.Ananda Samarakoon’s work is an essential part of Sri Lanka’s heritage.
